Jay Dix Challenge to Cure Race will benefit Ellis Fischel
The Jay Dix Challenge to Cure race will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 12, in Columbia to benefit cancer research and treatment in mid-Missouri.
The annual event includes a 5K walk, 5K run and a 10K run that will start together from Flat Branch Park at the corner of Fourth and Cherry streets. There will be a supervised fun area at Flat Branch Park for children not participating in the race.
The race was established five years ago in memory of Jay Dix, M.D., a University of Missouri Health Care pathologist who fought his own battle with cancer. Dix served as the medical examiner for Boone and Callaway counties and was involved in several medical and research organizations. He also enjoyed competing as a triathlete.
More than 550 people participated in last year’s Jay Dix Challenge to Cure race, and in five years more than $75,000 has been raised for Ellis Fischel Cancer Center .
All proceeds from this year’s race will be donated to cancer research programs at Ellis Fischel. The event is organized annually by the Columbia Multisport Club, a local organization developed to encourage participation in road races, cycling races, triathlons and healthy lifestyles.
