Lefevre Named Chief Medical Information Officer
Michael LeFevre, MD, MSPH, has been named chief medical information officer for University of Missouri Health Care, effective Aug. 1.
As chief medical information officer for the health system, LeFevre will play a leadership role in strategy formation, prioritization and implementation of clinical systems initiatives at University of Missouri Health Care.
Clinical systems are defined as those involving direct patient care. These range from medication management systems, such as bar coding of medicine and electronic record of administration, to laboratory test results presentation and patient dietary orders, to name a few examples.
As chief medical information officer, LeFevre will report to George Carr, chief information officer for University of Missouri Health Care. LeFevre will continue to serve as a professor in the MU School of Medicine and as a family physician with University Physicians.
“Our intent is to ensure that the investment that is being made in clinical systems adequately addresses the needs of the clinician and physician community, Carr said. “Dr. LeFevre’s work in this area will help us improve patient care and streamline many processes for our physicians. It should also help us improve efficiency in the way we deliver many clinical services.”
“With Dr. LeFevre’s superb knowledge of the electronic medical record (EMR) and his understanding of process improvement, he will make even greater contributions in this role,” said Les Hall, M.D., chief medical officer at University of Missouri Health Care. “This appointment will help to build upon recent improvements we have seen in EMR functionality. I know that Dr. LeFevre is intensely devoted to working with our physicians and other health care workers to develop the best IT tools possible in support of good care.”
