Lefevre selected to national advisory boards

COLUMBIA, Mo. — The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute has appointed Michael LeFevre, M.D., M.S.P.H., to serve on the Eighth Joint National Committee on Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Pressure.

The initiative aims to develop clinical guidelines to reduce the risk for cardiovascular disease. LeFevre, a professor of family and community medicine in the MU School of Medicine, also serves as chief medical information officer for University of Missouri Health Care.

“This appointment reflects on Dr. LeFevre’s outstanding contributions in evidence-based medicine at the national level and his reputation as both an incisive and fair-minded clinician and scholar,” said Steve Zweig, M.D., Paul Revare Family Professor and interim chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the MU School of Medicine.

In 2005, LeFevre was chosen to serve on the United States Preventive Services Task Force. The task force is an independent panel comprised of 15 private-sector experts in prevention, evidence-based medicine and primary care. Its mission is to evaluate and recommend preventive services in the United States. LeFevre is serving his second three-year term on the task force.

In addition, the National Business Group on Health has appointed LeFevre to serve on the newly established Preventive Services Advisory Board. LeFevre will provide expert advice on how to promote targeted, efficient and effective preventive services as key elements of employers’ health and human capital strategies.
