Wireless Internet available to patients and visitors at University of Missouri Health Care facilities

University of Missouri Health Care is now offering complimentary wireless Internet service to all patients and visitors. High speed internet access is available in patient rooms and visitor areas at University Hospital, Columbia Regional Hospital, Ellis Fischel Cancer Center and University Physicians Medical Building.

“This is a convenient way for our patients and visitors to stay connected while in our care,” said Jim Steele, director of support services for University of Missouri Health Care. “Patients have requested this service more frequently over the past year, and we are pleased that we can now offer complimentary wireless Internet to meet their needs.”

“Offering complimentary wireless Internet is one way to connect our patients and visitors to their regular routines and communication,” said Sarah Knoerr, coordinator of employee services and operational improvement for University of Missouri Health Care. “Sometimes simple actions such as checking e-mail can lift a patient’s spirits and help pass the time during a patient’s hospital stay.”

Wireless Internet access is the latest amenity offered to patients and visitors by University of Missouri Health Care. In 2006, valet parking began as a convenient way for patients and visitors to avoid the hassles of parking their own cars. In 2007, University Hospital and Columbia Regional Hospital initiated a hospitality coordinator program. The coordinators handle non-clinical types of tasks such as bringing a patient a newspaper to read, escorting discharged patients to their vehicles or contacting maintenance staff to repair a broken TV.
